Chapter 0: Introduction
Basic Objectives to be covered in this chapter:
-Are you a Talent?
-Known Talent list
-Latent, minor, major, or none(spirit) Talent?
Are you a Talent? As you probably know, our world consists of much more than only what we can see. We live in an incredible fabric of time and space that no one can truly understand in its fullest. Modern technology has tried its hardest to make sense of it all, but we are far from knowing the greater majority of what there is to know about the universe. In essence, we have only begun to scratch the surface.
Modern technology has, however, been bringing up more and more proof about the existence of alternate dimensions existing parallel to our own. A fine, seemingly impassable, line separates us from these other dimensions, the key of which is thought to be gravity. Whether this is true or not is yet to be determined, but the line is not quite as impassable as it may first appear.
Talents have the ability to walk this line and enter the dimension closest to our own: the Mental Realm. With many hours of practice, it is possible to enter other dimensions, but that will be spoken of later. Having the ability to enter this other dimension does have effects on our physical forms.
Perhaps you have a knack for learning quickly, or maybe you are able to read the emotions of another person so easily it’s like reading a book. You could also feel a strangely vibrant connection to the world around you, or be able to sense and see things that you shouldn’t. All of these, plus many more not mentioned here, are examples of effects having a Talent can have on your body and mental state.
If you do not show the signs of any of these, nor think that you may have a certain other trait that classifies you as Talent, you may still be one. Many Talent-bearers have latent talents, which will either come out eventually or never come out at all. In the end, every single person on the face of the Earth is Talented in some way, shape, or form, but a grand majority of them are latent in the way that their Talents will never surface.
If you believe yourself to be a latent Talent, talk with someone of considerable experience and they may be able to help you reach them.
The Talents themselves, despite having physical effects on the person, are typically not physical at all. There are a wide range of these Talents, but the most common ones are Empathy, Aura Reading, Truedreaming, Healing, Shielding, and Deep-probing. (Note: These terms are borrowed from the Obernewtyn Chronicles because the terms are self-explanatory).
The most basic Talent, and one which everyone who wants to utilize more advanced Talents must first learn, is Traveling, which will be covered in the chapter after next.
Now, along with latent Talents, there are other Talent categories.
Latent Talent: Abilities within the person are in perpetual hibernation. At some point, they may come out, but most of the time they never do. The majority of the population is latent in their talents.
Minor Talent: Some people do have Talents, but cannot use them very effectively. This is often due to being untrained.
Major Talent: The highest level of mental Talent. Major Talents can use their abilities freely and are often very powerful mentally. These people were all initially minor talents, except in very rare cases. They typically have a considerable amount of experience, and are good people to go to if you are looking for more help after you finish reading this guide.
Known Major Talents: Myself, Shadow, Bramble
None(Spirit) Talent: Someone that wasn't born with the mental powers of those that are talents. They can sometimes have strengths that are not from mental powers but more so spiritual which is different then mental as they are from the strength of the mind and will while the spirit is from the strength of ones soul. These none talents are rarely aware that there something out there of power and likely wouldn't understand the problems that talents must deal with. They are best kept in the dark about such things as the mental plane because they could get themselves in troubles when it would have been avoided should they have not been informed. ~Contributed by Twitch
With all of that behind, we will now focus on some more specific things about the Mental Realm…
